Asked Questions

I like dancing and have heard of Lindy Hop but how is it danced exactly and what sort of music is it danced to?

Lindy Hop is a lively partner dance that started in 1920s-30s in Harlem, New York and is danced mainly to swing jazz music. The style mixes 8 count or 6 count moves and often includes energetic elements like turns, kicks and spins with both leaders and followers both contributing creatively to the dance. There are no right or wrong moves that can be included in a dance, simply let the music move you, that is half the joy of Lindy Hop.

Is Lindy Hop danced fast or slow?

Depending on the stage you are of learning Lindy Hop you can dance slowly or fast. In the early stages of learning Lindy Hop you will step methodically through various moves at a slow and steady pace. This pace can suit many pieces of music however as you learn more steps and become more proficient you will want to dance faster!

What should I wear?

Comfortable in clothes that allow you to move freely and most importantly shoes that are comfortable, don't slip off and will move easily on the floor.
